Lauchie Reid is a Canadian painter, illustrator, printmaker, and educator. Focused primarily on portraiture, landscape and still life, his interest in history and outmoded methods of image-making grounds his pseudo-historical approach to media and subject. Through juxtaposition of traditional techniques and aesthetics with contemporary technology and humour, he aspires to encourage renewed interest and connection with presently unfashionable conventions.
Struthiocamelus Intrepidus presents Reid’s second project in mezzotint printmaking. Complementing his 2025 foray into the medium, Sus Fidelus, the piece carries forward Reid’s playful integration of seriously-technical traditionalism and tongue-in-cheek artistic license.
