Kristiina Lahde / Adam David Brown - Under the Influence (black), 2023

Kristiina Lahde and Adam David Brown have fostered prolific, independent artistic practices rooted in Conceptual Art. Engaging a wide range of media inclusive of sculpture, video, installation, drawing, painting and printmaking, their parallel practices demonstrate a similar inclination for deep investigation and experimentation. Lahde and Brown’s collaborative participation as 2023 Smokestack Analog Print Residency participants became the first extensive professional project undertaken together.

Lahde and Brown’s exhibition at Smokestack Gallery, Under the Influence, presented the extensive body of silkscreen-based works created during their time in residence. With Smokestack’s Master Printmaker, Laine Groeneweg, Lahde and Brown pushed the limits of the silkscreen medium in their focused investigation of the fingerprint. Experimentation with patterning, layering, scale and density illustrate rhythmic networks, cross-hatched connections and an expanded translation of the notion of touch.
