808 merges Laine Groeneweg’s passions for printmaking and music and created on the occasion of his collaborative, multi-sensory exhibition with Doug Tewksbury. This silkscreen print transcribes the iconic Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer drum machine – commonly known as the 808. Released between 1980-83, it was one of the first tools available for audio sampling and rhythm programming. Today, the 808 is regarded as one of the most influential inventions in the early development of electronic and hip-hop music genres.
