Smokestack Conversation: Jenn Law & Patrick Mahon, 2026

Saturday, October 17 @ 2pm, Smokestack Gallery, Hamilton

Join us Saturday, October 17, for a conversation between exhibiting artist, Jenn Law, and fellow multi-media artist, Patrick Mahon. Through their presentation, Law and Mahon will take a deeper look into Law’s works on display in her current solo-exhibition, This is how we survive, and discuss the congruencies between their artistic practices and explorations in printmaking.

Jenn Law is a Toronto-based artist and writer whose work explores the relationship between language, culture, and the natural world. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from SOAS, University of London, UK; a BA in Anthropology from McGill University, Montreal; and a BFA from Queen’s University, Kingston, ON. Her practice combines writing, printmaking, book arts, and site-specific interventions, and has been exhibited in Canada, the USA, Australia, Taiwan, Spain, and the UK. She is the co-founder and editor of the experimental publishing platform Arts + Letters Press and the journal art + reading. This fall, she is co-launching the collaborative platform Canadian Print Stories on print culture in Canada.  

Patrick Mahon is an artist, and a writer/curator who lives in London, ON. He is a Distinguished University Professor in Visual Arts at Western University (Emeritus), retired as of 2024. Mahon’s artwork has been exhibited widely in Canada: at Museum London; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto; the Southern Alberta Art Gallery; the Winnipeg Art Gallery and The Art Gallery of Hamilton; and internationally in China, France, Norway, Switzerland and elsewhere. Recent solo and group exhibitions include Patrick Mahon: Messagers’ Forum, Thames Art Gallery Chatham, ON and Written on the Earth, McIntosh Gallery, London, ON. Notable collaborative exhibitions & projects include GardenShip and State, a touring exhibition with a series of related projects and presentations that was a finalist for GOG Exhibition of the Year in 2022; and Immersion Emergencies and Possible Worlds and its second iteration The Living River Project presented at the Art Gallery of Windsor (2019) . Mahon’s work is held in numerous private, corporate, and museum collections.
