Blue-green algae samples from Lake Ontario; mariners’ pipes recovered from the Atlantic seafloor; and glassware marked over long passages of time by the generative and destructive processes of the sea.
Vessels and Suspensions features a selection of photographs by Hamilton-based artist Chris Myhr, that ruminate on themes of materiality and the ephemeral: the interplay between objects, bodies, thought, and memory. The work underscores the persistence of things as they move – not toward nothingness – but from one network of relationships to another.
The images are part of a larger body of work titled “Point-Line-Intersection” that examines our complex interconnections with the Ocean and its tributaries; the tension between water as life, vitality and industry, as well as a source of immense and unpredictable destructive power. –Chris Myhr
