Kristin Sjaarda investigates the intricacies of the ecosystem through photography. Influenced by the style and content of still-life paintings from the 17th century Dutch Golden Age, Sjaarda’s photographic adaptations present larger-than-life sized botanical arrangements that boast high-contrast lighting and amplified depth of visual clarity.
Autumn is amongst the latest grouping of collaborative print projects between Sjaarda and Smokestack’s digital printmaker, Jonathan Groeneweg that engage the exceptional capabilities of advanced digital imaging technology to capture the arrangement in hyper depth and clarity. The integration of a painted background behind the arrangement (also a collaborative contribution by artist Nancy Friedland) further underscores the wide scope of artistic processes engaged to portray Sjaarda’s subject.
