As a participant of Smokestack’s 2022 Analog Print Residency, Meaghan Hyckie utilized her time in residence as opportunity to undertake an intensive, introductory focus on intaglio printmaking. Following extensive production of variable edition aquatints, Meaghan delved into experimentation with another intaglio process – photopolymer gravure. A method historically applied to translation of traditional photographs, Laine worked with Meaghan to adapt the photopolymer gravure process as a way to render the graphic linearity of her Elevation image series with “precise, crispiness” (as Meaghan describes).
