David Trautrimas explores contemporary cultural phenomena in a multi-disciplinary practice that employs laser-cut acrylic assemblage, photography, sculpture, and printmaking. Oscillating between abstracted and representational renderings, his works have examined those popular icons and ordinary objects that influence and inform daily living. Trautrimas’ 2024 Analog Print Residency at Smokestack studio introduced opportunity for his work in an entirely new medium: cyanotype. Created during his residency, D34+I-I IVII1K extends cyanotype printing into three dimensions: a work on paper designed, printed, cut and folded into a life-sized 16 fl oz milk carton. The commercial product form is borrowed, the life/death | above/below conception and design is entirely his own.
