What Time is This Place? A solo-exhibition of photographs by Sylvia Galbraith.

Integration of a fascination with early photographic processes and interest in temporal relationships between buildings and people informed a new body of work Galbraith began during recent residencies in Newfoundland. Using camera obscura and pinhole techniques in historic outport buildings, Galbraith’s projections interweave the contemporary state of these built environments with exterior views of the surrounding coastal landscape that have remained constant. Drawing the title from a book of the same name by Kevin Lynch, What Time is This Place? presents these examinations of deep-rooted connections between people and their places of origin within the context of displacement, resettlement and renewal.

Sylvia Galbraith has presented her work in solo and group-exhibitions across Canada and her work may be found in corporate, public and private collections in Canada and internationally. Galbraith has participated in residencies in Newfoundland, Banff, and northern Ontario, and been a recipient of grants from the Canada Council of the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. She is currently based in Fergus, ON.
